Fans of my WoW Lore Podcast, The OverLores, will know that we’ve been talking for some time about doing video shows.  Well, I finally pulled the trigger, set up the YouTube channel, and bought Fraps.

I got into the Mists of Pandaria beta in the 2nd wave (possibly 3rd, I forget the timing of each exactly) and immediately began planning to do some Panda Lore video casts.

I’ve now set up Fraps, I check settings, adjust audio levels, and log into the MoP beta to find this:

Take note of the blue haze in the lower third, center.  That is where I am standing, along with roughly 100 other players, and as I stood there, the pile got bigger, and the lag got laggy-er.

I had just ordered more RAM for my PC but had not yet installed it, this would take me from 3gigs to 8gigs.  I planned to install said RAM, make sure everything was running properly, then try again… not at what could be considered “Prime Time” (silly Ril).

RAM installed, Fraps adjusted to reduce video lag (I didn’t need to record at full resolution to upload to YouTube at 720p) I log in again, at a more appropriate time when server traffic would be a little lighter.

I am greeted by this:

I managed to finish a few quests, running blind (or rather, pink’d) using just the minimap, and a lot of jumping to avoid obstacles.  I realized I was going no where.

I made my way to the top of the Temple, jumped off the balcony (took a nice scary drop in HP), ran out of what I can only assume is the initial town, which I got to see very little of, and found this:

… Giant pink cubes.  Giant pink panda cubes.

Obviously I was experiencing something either quite glitchy on my end or on the servers, but either way I could certainly not record a quality video of the lore in the Pandaren starting experience.
